In our next session, we will continue our film and conversation series, and learn more about the incredible documentary, Home is Somewhere Else. Watch the trailer here.
This animated documentary portrays the genuine experiences of three young immigrants and their families, through three stories that together comprise the film.
We have a really special session coming up on Sept 13: Evelyn, who is featured in the story of the film that we began watching in our first session, will be joining us to share her experiences - and begins by sharing this personal story:
I am Evelyn. I was born in the US; however, I live in Merida, Yucatan. I am working towards becoming a healer and building a ranch for those who need it. I want to be able to provide education, shelter, and a little peace for people who forget who they are because of how life has treated them. I come from an immigrant family: my grandparents, my parents, and my siblings. We migrated to the US for a better life. I've seen their struggles but have not lived them. I like sharing our story because it helps provide a point of view we might be aware of but not think of very often. Immigration is a big part of this world, and yet it is seen as something ugly. I hope that with these conversations, that changes.
We will learn from Evelyn about being a child of an immigrant family, and her privileges as a US Citizen that are denied to her family by anti-immigration laws.
We will continue learning why it is important to give these young immigrants a voice, and understanding their perspective. Among them, there is a yearning for love and belonging and yet they face a world of fear and uncertainty, where paperwork overshadows humanity.
Find a short video of Eveyln here talking about the film.
*While we record these sessions, we will not be recording the film portion, and the film is currently not available in theaters. We encourage you to join us live to fully experience the film and conversation series.
We hope you will join us to continue the conversation
